Academic Programs

The students at SMA receive a New York State Standards based curriculum.  Students learn through a variety of learning and teaching styles that include cooperative learning, small group instruction, projects, hands-on activities and large group instruction.

The curriculum includes the teachings of Jesus and the Roman Catholic faith which are integrated into the daily lessons and through the Fruit of the Spirit Character Education Program.

Students in grade eight have the opportunity to take Course A Mathematics and/or regents level Earth Science. These are both high school level courses.  All students in grade eight will take the Spanish Competency and Proficiency Regents exams.

SMA also administers the NYS English Language Arts and Math exams to students in grades 3 through 8, and the NYS Science exam to 4th and 8th grade students.

Spanish is offered to all Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight students.

Religious Education

Students in all grades receive a curriculum steeped in Catholic Faith and traditions as well as an introduction to other faiths and religions.  The words from the Fruit of the Spirit; Faith, Love, Peace, Joy, Goodness, Kindness, Self-Control and Patience guide our morning prayer assembly, daily religion program and our character education programming.  These words are prominently displayed around the school and even painted on the walls in the gymnasium.  The students, faculty, staff and parents are encouraged to think about and apply the daily teachings into their lives.

Students in second grade will complete the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist (Holy Communion) this year.

Bussing

Students who require bus transportation are required to communicate with their local school district prior to April 1st for the upcoming school year.  Hoosick Falls Central School district residents must complete a form and return it to the school district prior to April 1st. The form is available by request from St. Mary's Academy or by calling Hoosick Falls Central School.  Those who reside in the Cambridge School district should contact the Cambridge Central School and for those residents of the Berlin Central School district, the district will sent a notice directly to your home.

School Lunch Program
